That’s right kids, bacon can save your life. Don’t believe me? Take a look at this recent paper in the Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology. Share this with your peeps - bacon might have saved the life of a 4 year old boy! We have written about the virtues of bacon before, but “life-saving” is a place we have not ventured forth unto until today.
Ok, for the nerds and the skeptics, here is what actually happened. There is a 4 year old boy who has Glanzmann thrombasthenia. Glanzmann thrombasthenia is a disorder in which a person’s blood does not clot normally and they are therefore at risk of bleeding excessively. This boy apparently had two episodes of epistaxis (fancy name for a nose bleed) that were life-threatening. Stuffing cured, salted pork up his nose, “successfully stopped nasal hemorrhage promptly, effectively, and without sequelae. In both applications, the patient had complete cessation of nasal bleeding within 24 hours, and was discharged within 72 hours after treatment.”
Now, unless you have Glanzmann thrombasthenia, I would personally recommend the oral route of administration over the nasal route for most bacon. While snorting bacon could become the next fad, let’s keep it street legal and just enjoy the guilty pleasure that is bacon.
