Today is Veterans Day - a day in which we honor veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
If you are going to exercise today, consider substituting the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) in place of what you would normally do. Sold…iers are required to take this test to pass basic training and and then twice per year thereafter. I have posted the number of reps and times that are required to pass basic training below, so if you do take the test you can see if your scores would be good enough to pass. Here are the basic rules. The test consists of pushups, situps, and a 2 mile run. You have 2 min to do as many pushups as you can, 2 min to do as many situps as you can, and then complete a 2 mile run at your own pace. The three activities must be done in that order and you must rest at least 10 min, but not more than 20 min between each activity (seriously, this is from the Army Field Manual). Points are awarded based on the number of reps you complete and your time on the 2 mile run, and are adjusted by sex and age. The reps and times I’ve listed below will earn one 50 points on each activity, which is what is required to pass basic training. To pass you must earn 50 points on each of the three activities. See if you can do it!Larry
